Terms:

  • acid - refers to the pH level of a substance. The normal pH range of the scalp/hair is between 4.5 - 5.5. This helps to neutralize ingredients that would be too alkaline for the skin. 
  • alcohols- solvents, carriers or astringents.
  • astringent- ingredient used to improve the appearance of large, open pores. Used to reduce the oils content on the skins surface.
  • emollient- fatty substance with lubricating action
  • emulsifier- holds the oil based and water based ingredients together.
  • essential oil- volatile oily substance obtained from plants. These oils contain vitamins, hormones, antibiotics and/or anti-septics.
  • humectant- increases the skin's moisture content.

 

Ingredients: 

  • activated charcoal - fine, odorless, tasteless and non-toxic that attracts toxins from the skin/scalp. Exfoliating, removes residue and build up.
  • almond oil, sweet - serves as an emollient and a carrier. Allows skin to feel elegant. 
  • aloe vera - an emollient and film forming gum resin that carries hydrating, softening, healing, anti-microbial, and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • aloe vera gel- the inner mucilage in the aloe vera leaf.
  • avocado oil - emollient or carrier oil helping to transport active substances into the skin. It is bactericidal and soothing, essential for sensitive skin.
  • BTMS 25 and 50- emulsifying wax that helps to mix water and oil. These fats stablize and thicken formulations. Derived from rapeseed oil.
  • calendula (marigold) - emollient said to have healing, wound- healing, soothing, antiseptic, anti-itching and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • camphor- anesthetic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent, cooling, and refreshing properties are packed into this herb.
  • castor oil - high emollient carrier oil that penetrates the skin easily and leaves it soft and supple. It helps bind different ingredients together. 
  • cedarwood - herb/essential oil that has antiseptic, sedative, and astringent properties. Helps heal skin eruptions and relieves itching. 
  • cetearyl alcohol (cetostearyl) - an emulsifying and stabilizing wax. It is a mixture of fatty alcohols (cetyl and stearyl)
  • chamomile- anti-inflammatory and repairer properties. Also, anti-itching, soothing, bactericidal, refreshing and hypoallergenic that can neutralize skin irritants. Can be used for treating burns and skin inflammations like dermatitis.
  • cinnamon- stimulant that is effective on skin. widely used as a tonic and antiseptic. (if used in high doses, can cause skin irritation)
  • clove- antiseptic and wound healing agent with a very strong germicidal effect. Improves skin's texture and feel and helps to mask odor.
  • cornsilk- blocks DHT (dihydrotestosterone) that causes hair loss, purifies and detox.
  • emulsifying wax NF - mixing and thickening agent.
  • eucalyptus- antiseptic, disinfectant, anti-fungal, and blood circulation activation ingredient. 
  • evening primrose - a therapeutic astringent and skin regulator. Improves skin's hydration and develops natural barrier for the skin's protection.
  • fennel- cleanser and detoxifier
  • frankincense- anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, helps balance oily and overactive skin.
  • glycerin- humectant (water binding)
  • grapeseed - moisturizing, nourishing, contains linoleic acid. 
  • hempseed oil - packed with essentiall fatty acids like omega 3 and 6, moisturizing, prevents dryness and flakiness and aids in hair growth.
  • honey - soothing, softening, and moisturizing, anti bacterial and immunological. (Do not take if allergic to pollen) 
  • jojoba - moisturizer and emollient; healing, penetrating.
  • lavender - fragrance, anti-allergenic, anti inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial, antispasmodic, anti inflammatory, balancing, energizing, soothing, healing, tonic, stimulating. 
  • lemongrass - astringent, tonic, antifungal, fragrance.
  • mango butter - emollient, moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, cellular rejuvenation, UV protection.
  • milk protein- smoothing
  • oat- soothing, enhancing, whole natural vegetable protein, soap-free cleanser, anti inflammatory properties.
  • olive oil - carrier oil with lubricity, emollient, stimulating, moisturizing.
  • palm oil - regulator, stabilizer for creams, lotions, makeup and other cosmetics.
  • panthenol (Vitamin B5) - pentrating moisturizer, cellular proliferation, tissue repair. non-irritant, non-sensitizing, moisturizing,conditioning.
  • peppermint- irritation relief, anti-inflammatory, anti-itching, reduces skin redness, fragrance.
  • polysorbate 60 NF- emulsifier, wetting agent, detergent, stabilizer for essential oils.
  • rosehip - astringent, emollient, wound healing, hydrating, antiseptic, UV protection.
  • rosemary - antiseptic, fragrance, toning, refreshing, stimulating.
  • rosewater - soothing, astringent, and cleansing. 
  • safflower oil - carrier oil, hydrating, non-comedogenic.
  • shea butter - skin protectant, hydrating, anti inflammatory
  • sodium hydroxide - adjusts pH level of product to make more acceptable to skin.
  • sorbitan oleate- emulsifier derived from sugar.
  • sorbital- moisturizing, smoothing.
  • spearmint- cooling, aromatic stimulant, cleansing, decongestant, astrignent, fragrance. Best used on oily and acne prone skin.
  • tamanu oil - emollient, antioxidant, antimicrobial, UV protection, anti aging, regenerating. (Can be used for dry to very dry skin)
  • tangerine- antispasmodic, sedative, fragrance.
  • tea tree oil - natural preservative, antiseptic, germicidal, antimicrobial, promote healing, reduces scaling, redness as related to skin conditions such as eczema.
  • Vitamin E - most important oil soluble antioxidant and free radical agent, protects, preservation, moisturizing,.
  • white willow extract- treats acne and eczema. antiseptic, skin clearing, tonic, astringent, natural source of salicylic acid, exfoliating.
  • ylang ylang - relaxing, anti stress, smoothing, rejuvenating, calming, soothing, antispasomadic, beneficial when it comes to working with skin disorders.
